Analytics

Reading the figures honestly: new vs. returning customers, uplift, attribution.

The key figures

New vs. returning shows the ratio of fresh to known customers. Customer value shows the average value per customer over time. Effect per automation shows what each automation achieved.

Understanding uplift correctly

Uplift measures the additional returning customers compared with a similar group that was deliberately not messaged. It shows a correlation, not necessarily a cause.

Values that are statistically too uncertain are deliberately not shown at all (no “0” or “n/a”), so you do not rely on noise.

Staff attribution

Because every action is attributed to a staff member via their PIN, analytics can also be shown per staff member. These figures exist for traceability, not for performance monitoring.

Tax report for your tax advisor

Under Analytics, Tax report, you see which rewards and offers you gave away free or discounted in a period: with discount value, split by VAT rate, and every individual entry with time, location and staff member. Reversals appear as their own line. You can pass the overview on to your tax advisor as a CSV or PDF.

For amounts to appear, add the discount value and VAT rate to each reward. The discount value is what the guest pays less: for a free coffee its normal price, for a menu at the price of a burger only the difference. If the reward contains items with different rates, choose “mixed” and split the amount. This applies from the next redemption; older redemptions are added with today’s value and marked as such.

Which rates you can choose depends on the business country under Business details. tapja suggests it from your location, and you can change it there. The stored rates are non-binding guidance without guarantee. Every entry keeps the rate that applied when it was redeemed.

Incentives from automations, for example on a birthday, are not in the report because they are not redeemed at the counter. The report does not replace booking in your till. The next section describes how other businesses record rewards there.

The report is a record, not tax or legal advice, and is provided without guarantee. How rewards are classified for tax purposes and which obligations apply to you is something to settle with your tax advisor. tapja keeps the entries for ten years.

Till and tax report: you need both

The tax report shows which reward was given when, where and by whom. It does not replace recording it in your till. How you book rewards there is something to agree with your tax advisor; the following points are only suggestions.

A common approach: enter the item at its normal price, for a menu all of its parts, and apply a discount with a fixed reason such as “Loyalty reward” on top, 100% for a free item, otherwise the discount value. That way each item keeps its VAT rate. After redeeming, the counter shows you the amount per VAT rate.

Many businesses check once a month: the discounts with the reason “Loyalty reward” in the till are compared with the totals per VAT rate in the tax report, and both go to the tax advisor.

If your till has no discount function, you work without a cash register, or you hand out gifts from automations, ask your tax advisor how to record these cases.
