Working at the counter

Scan, stamp, hand out cards: everyday work in the counter mode of the tapja app.

Three steps

Point the camera at the customer’s code. The app opens the card with the name, the balance (e.g. 9 of 10) and any active offer, even if the customer swiped the notification away long ago.

Then the right button: add a stamp, book points or redeem a reward. Which of them appear depends on the card and on your own role.

If a foreign QR code is scanned, the link to the menu for instance, the app only shows a short note. That is not an error, it is the information that the code does not belong to tapja.

When the QR code will not scan

Under “Search manually” you can find the customer without a code, by name or customer number. The spelling of the number does not matter: “7”, “#7” and “K-0008” all lead to the same place.

This search is open to every staff member and needs no PIN. It deliberately shows only the name and customer number, just enough to find the right person.

Several stamps and booking amounts

If someone buys several rounds at once, the number of stamps can be raised before booking. How many are allowed per action is up to the business. Without a connection this is not possible: offline there is one stamp per action.

Cards where points are given by purchase value or by hand always require a PIN, no matter whether the device is shared or personal.

Handing out a new card

Under “Give card” a code appears that the customer scans with their own phone. After that the card is in their wallet. Alternatively the link can be shared in a message.

The hand-out is attributed to the staff member who started it. On a shared device that takes a PIN each time.

Blocked cards

If a card is blocked, the app shows the reason in plain words instead of a bare error. Stamping and redeeming are not possible then.

If the card was only blocked because the email confirmation is missing, the confirmation mail can be sent again straight from the card view. After that the card works again.

Kiosk mode (continuous scanning)

Kiosk mode turns the device into a pure scanner: only the camera stays visible, every other area is locked, and the screen does not switch off. Meant for a tablet that sits permanently on the counter.

It can only be ended with a valid PIN for the location. Even restarting the device does not lift it. You start it in the account area.

Reporting a problem

If something is stuck, be it the scanner, a card or signing in, owners and managers can send a report to the tapja team straight from the counter.

This is deliberately a one-way channel: the answer goes to the owner’s email address, not to the counter device. There is no message history at the counter. Nobody there should be waiting for a reply.
